Lima City Council held a regular meeting on Monday Night and approved legislation that is part of a new multi-million dollar hotel project in Lima. Council approved the construction of a "Home2 Suites" extended-stay hotel located at South Leonard Avenue in Lima through the support of a 15-year property tax abatement of 50% for the City of Lima, Perry Local Schools, and the Apollo Career Center.

Mayor Sharetta Smith is asking council to approve a onetime payment of $1,000 to current city employees that had to provide essential work during the pandemic.  There would be qualifications that the employees would have to meet to get the hazard pay, including they would have to been employed between March 9th and December 31st of 2020, and was not engaged in work that was “work from home,” unless it was required to do so under a quarantine order.  All elected officials and mayoral staff appointees are not eligible to get the hazard pay.  The bonus is part of Lima’s “Better Together” plan and will not exceed a total of $420,000.

Lakeview Farms is investing 24 to 30 million dollars to expand their commercial food processing plant and add warehouse space. An increase of up to 180 thousand square feet of new space. Thursday, Allen County commissioners approved a 10-year, 90% tax abatement for the company's new investment in the expansion.

Allen County Commissioners approved a 50% 10-year tax abatement for Nutrien to add a storage building along with office space for contractors working at the facility. Nutrien has committed to investing in our community for nearly 70 years and this project will not only encourage more growth for the company but add a layer of safety for their employees.

Nutrien is asking for 50% tax abatement for 10 years on the construction of a storage building and office space for contractors that are working at their facility. Lakeview Farms in Delphos is looking at a 100,000 square foot expansion of their plant to add a new production line and warehouse space, that could cost between 35 and 40 million dollars.

With the approval of a 50% 10-year property tax abatement, a Holiday Inn and Suites will be located on the 2.6-acres of land just east the Applebee’s. This Enterprise Zone agreement is with Lima Partners, LLC who is heading up the new motel project and economic development officials say it’s going to be good for the county.

The company currently employs 270 people at its Spencerville location. Construction on the expansion should be completed and ready for use by July 2023. Regional growth partnership, Allen Economic Development Group, Jobs Ohio, and the Village of Spencerville were all involved in making the project happen.

Council amended the 2021 annual budget which will allow the city to hire 6 firefighters as well as 6 police officers in the upcoming year. Council also approved on its first reading, a 50% tax abatement with the new owners of the Ohio Theatre, PLAYWITHYOURFOOD LLC. for 12 years for the increased property tax valuation to make improvements to the structure. The project includes repairing the roof and running new electrical, plumbing, and gas lines where needed. The owner expects to create a minimum of 45 new jobs which will help the local economy.
