Vice President-elect JD Vance has resigned from his seat in the U.S. Senate. The move will trigger Governor Mike DeWine to appoint his successor. Vance made his intentions known in a letter to DeWine on Thursday; he will be sworn in as vice president on January 20th. Among the handful of contenders for Vance's replacement is Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, who last month accompanied the governor to meet with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

Many Elida residents voiced strong concerns about the financial future of Elida Local Schools at Tuesday night's special board of education meeting. Currently, the Elida School Board is weighing the idea of putting out a $2.7 million renewal levy as the current levy expires at the end of 2025. In the unofficial 5-year forecast presented by Elida Treasurer Larry Kaiser, the district's expenses are forecasted to outpace revenues by an increasingly growing margin. On Tuesday evening, many Elida residents publicly addressed the board with their concerns if a renewal levy is not pursued.

United States Senator Sherrod Brown stopped in Lima on Thursday to talk to voters about how he's helped Ohioans. Brown and local union leaders endorsing him emphasized that his efforts in office have been focused on making Washington work for individuals and the working class. He has spent the last several years working on bills that keep jobs in the United States, lowering healthcare costs, and strengthening union rights.

He is calling it a "Trifecta of Republican Politics" that will be highlighting the Allen County Republican Party barbecue. Allen County Republican chair Keith Cheney announced Thursday that Florida Governor Ron Desantis, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and United States Senate candidate Bernie Moreno will be the speakers at the barbecue rally. Both Desantis and Ramaswamy dropped out of the presidential race early to support Trump, and Cheney says it's fortunate that we could get all three of them to attend.
