COLUMBUS, OHIO (WLIO) - We are less than a month away from the presidential inauguration, and there is no word yet on who might be replacing vice president-elect JD Vance.

But the governor has talked to a few people following Vance and Donald Trump’s election win in November.
The first-term Ohio senator will need to resign first before Governor Mike DeWine can name his successor. But the governor has talked to a few people following Vance and Donald Trump’s election win in November. Spokespeople for DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Husted have confirmed that they met with Trump and Vance at Mar-a-Lago this month, which is fueling speculation that Husted could be tapped to be the replacement. But other names like Secretary of State Frank LaRose, former Republican chair Jane Timken, and Representative Mike Carey are also being considered. We asked Husted recently about the process and if he is interested in the job.
“Well, it’s an exciting thing that we have an Ohioan who is going to become Vice President of the United States. I had the honor of nominating JD Vance at the Republican National Convention. So, it’s a really exciting thing for all of us, but there is no vacancy until Sen. Vance resigns from the Senate, which is probably at least a month from now. So, there is no rush on this; the governor is going to listen to all the people who would like to be a senator and listen to the people of Ohio and then make his pick,” says Lt. Gov. Jon Husted.
Vance will be sworn in as Vice President on January 20th, just before President-elect Trump. Whoever will be selected to replace Vance will be joining first-time U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno to be Ohio’s Senators.
