CELINA, OH (WLIO) - A candidate for state representative addressed Celina residents about some issues at stake this November.
Arienne Childrey, who is running for the District 84 Ohio House of Representatives seat, talked with voters Saturday afternoon about the importance of voting in all elections on the ballot and how to reach rural voters. The chair of the Shelby County Democratic Party also joined the event to explain why Democrats should take time to talk to Republicans about their candidates and ballot issues.
The deadline to register to vote in Ohio is October 7th.
Childrey says that many of the policies she supports are based on bipartisan values, such as solving the nursing shortage and funding quality public education.
"Like with our school voucher program that's going on right now, taking a billion dollars out of our public schools and sending them to unaccountable private schools. I believe we need to fully invest in public education. That means we currently rank as 38th in starting teacher pay; we got a billion dollars; let's make sure we're putting that to good use. Let's make sure that no teacher ever has to buy their own supplies," she said.
Childrey runs against incumbent State Representative Angie King on November 5th. The deadline to register to vote in Ohio is October 7th.
