“Everyone will have at least two issues on their ballot,” said Morgan Bode, director of the Allen County Board of Elections. “After that, it depends what district you live in, whether you'll have anything else. There is a countywide issue, and there’s also State Issue 2.”

The Allen County Board of Elections wants to remind people of the petition deadline for the May primary. With it being an off-year election, voters will be deciding who will be representing them at the county and municipal level. So anyone interested in running for those seats must get their petitions signed and submitted by Wednesday, February 5th, to be on the ballot.

St. Marys City Council approved the language of a renewal income tax levy residents will vote on next year. Currently, St. Marys residents pay an income tax of 1.5%. With this renewal income tax levy, St. Marys voters will decide if they will renew the 1.5% income tax they already pay. It is important to note that this levy will not increase taxes, and it is a renewal levy that happens every 10 years after the original income tax levy passed in 1985. After council, we spoke with the Mayor of St. Marys, Joe Hurlburt Jr., on how the collected tax is used.

This November, Ohio voters will have to decide if there will be a change or not to the state's political map-making process. Governor Mike DeWine says he cannot support the ballot initiative that gets rid of the Ohio Redistricting Commission, which is made up of himself and other politicians, and if passed would be replaced by a 15-member citizens' panel. DeWine, Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, and other opponents of the measure say this issue could encourage gerrymandering.

Ohioans will have to decide if they want to change who draws the political district maps or not. The statewide ballot item put on by "Citizens Not Politicians" is asking voters to approve the creation of a citizen-led board to draw the boundaries for the Ohio House and Senate and the U.S. congressional districts over the current system of the Ohio Redistricting Commission, which is made up of state-elected officials.

The Heritage Trails Park District held a public meeting Wednesday evening to discuss a new levy on the ballot for the general election on November 7th. They're asking voters to a approve half a mill over the next five years. Funding would come from property taxes, with residents paying about $18 annually per $100,000 in real estate.
