Potential revitalization district allowing the sale of alcohol in Ottawa moves to ballot

OTTAWA, Ohio (WLIO) - A revitalization district might be in the works for the Village of Ottawa, possibly allowing alcohol to be sold.

This potential district would reside between the two main railroad tracks in Ottawa. Recently, businesses and potential restaurants have expressed interest in selling alcohol but are currently unable to do so. On Tuesday afternoon, the Ottawa Village Council unanimously voted to move forward putting the revitalization district on the ballot and letting voters decide. We also talked to Ottawa Mayor Dean Meyer about the details of Tuesday night's passed ordinance.

“What our ordinance did was to allow this to be put on the ballot, but it also says that 75% of the annual sales of the restaurant or whatever needs to be food and beverage, not so much the alcohol, so they got to break that up and to be able to prove the difference there. But this doesn't mean that is going to happen. This just allows this to be put on the ballot and let the residents decide,” Ottawa Mayor Dean Meyer explained.

The Village of Ottawa will now send this issue to the Putnam County Board of Elections.
