6th graders prepared comedy puppet shows based on different biblical tales to present to kindergarteners. The project comes after a week full of activities to encourage students to read more outside of school, like making positive message posters and giveaways. Fun to Read Week hopes to show kids from an early age that reading isn't just something you have to do for school.
It was a Monday Evening full of scripture, music, and community gathering inside Delphos St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church as community members came together to celebrate the Christmas season. The Delphos Ministerial Association hosted the 44th Delphos Community Christmas Worship Service with a variety of musical performances that feature the Delphos St. John's Handbell Choir, Jefferson High School Choir, several soloists as well as scripture reading to worship the birth of Jesus for Christmas.
Community members spare a couple of hours Saturday afternoon to have some fun bowling and raise some money for a lima youth center.
Around 20 teams from local companies and organizations came out to support City Life at Rally Point Youth Center during their 7th annual bowl-a-thon fundraiser. The money raised helps them continue their mission to providing 11 to 19-year-olds with Christian based programing in a safe, positive, and drug-free environment. Organizers are happy to see the community support for their program.
Bicycle riders took advantage of a perfect day to help raise money for the Rally Point Youth Center. This is the 14th year for their Rally Point River Ride. Throughout Saturday morning participants rode anywhere between 10 to 62.5 miles through the park's trail and along area road.
Southside Christian Church and First Baptist Church have partnered to present their “Food Truck” vacation bible school. The 5-day event will include Bible stories, music, science projects, crafts, and recreation activities. The children will get a meal each night to go with the food truck theme. Organizers are looking forward to seeing the kids.
"It says in the Bible that when the righteous are in power, the people rejoice, when the evil are in power, the people groan," said Theresa Lee, a coordinator for the event. "There are a lot of times that we need prayer. Prayer for our counties, for our states, for our nation, everyone needs it. For our schools, for our children. We've seen answered prayer in America, and we are going to continue to see it because God answers prayer."
Stocker’s love of helping is felt in the various places where she likes to donate her time. That includes LifeWise Academy, where her faith and her love of children combined to help start a time-release religious education program. When a house right next to the new Elida Elementary was about to go up for sale, Stocker and other volunteers helped change the house into a school that offers a faith-based education to hundreds of kids.
