It's officially Girl Scout cookie time! The iconic cookie sale began as a grassroots effort in 1917 with scouts baking their own cookies. The first commercially baked product came in 1934. The scouts have come a long way in selling cookies and today even sell on online. The sales raise money for the troops' activities and most of all teach the girls skills they will use throughout their lives by starting with small tasks.

The Indianbrook, Wildbrook, and Timberfield neighborhoods in Shawnee Township were dazzling with bright Christmas lights for the sixth annual Shawnee Luminary Night. Through all the waving santas, Christmas cookies, and chimneys lit up ready for Old Saint Nick's arrival was a great cause. At the Indianbrook exit, volunteers collected canned goods, toiletries, and monetary donations for the West Ohio Food Bank to make sure that everyone can enjoy the Christmas season.

Nothing says Christmas more than the music and the Lima Symphony made sure that everybody was in the holiday spirit at the Civic Center Saturday night. The chorus joined the orchestra to bring a variety of seasonal music to life in their annual Bells, Brass, and Bows concert. This performance is the most popular concert for the symphony each year, but this is only the first time for Music Director Andrew Crust to conduct it. The performance was filled with a variety of the sentimental favorites, plus some new renditions of some Christmas classics.

The Sparty Friends will be visiting littles at Freedom and Unity Elementary Schools this Friday for some holiday fun. West Middle Schoolers were with their Sparties from Heritage Elementary school decorating Christmas Cookies. They were learning icing techniques from the Sweet and Savory Shanty on Harding Highway. The students caught on quickly and were decorating like they were Food Network stars.
