Leandra Johnson, co-director of Freshnfaded "Team Outreach Lima", said, “It means everything to me. It shows unity. It shows community, just to be able to give them some place to come and have fun and be themselves.”
“We want all of those to come together. So hoping that we can get the word out so that anyone in the community that is a part of those and would love to celebrate and share all their heritage would come and join us at the Multicultural Expo,” said Julie Klingler, director of programs and partnerships for the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce.
Artists of all disciplines — including film, performing arts, dance, and more — can apply for grants that support professional development in their careers. Nonprofit and cultural organizations are also eligible for funding to create or expand in-person public art events, broadening access to cultural experiences for Lima residents.
It was a day of dance at Perry Elementary School on Friday. The A Step Above dance studio approached the school about an assembly to teach students about why we dance and different dance styles. The school jumped on board, and kids from kindergarten through 6th grade got a chance to learn about 4 different dance styles. From tap to hip hop and jazz to acro, a type of gymnastics, the students all joined in and had fun learning about the benefits of dance.

Auditions for children between the ages of 5 and 12 will take place from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 in the Freed Center for The Performing Arts, 500 W. College Ave., Ada. Those auditioning should be ready to participate in a dance call (jazz and/or tap shoes). No prepared dance or vocal solos will be accepted.
The Lima Kiwanis Club is expanding its Diva's Den project to help girls have the perfect dress for homecoming. The Kiwanis Club's Diva's Den project has been going on for a few years now and has helped many girls get a used dress for free for the prom. But now the Kiwanis will be holding a second event on September 7th to give students the chance to get that perfect dress for the homecoming dance without spending an arm and leg for it.
Residents were moving and grooving to the music at Lincoln Park Friday evening! Friday night was the second night of this year's "Lincoln Park Dances," and many took advantage of the warm weather to dance, sing, or even just sit back and relax to some of their favorite tunes by the band "Exploit Trio."
