Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati's main campuses are being investigated for their partnership with the nonprofit “The PhD Project,” which encourages Black, Hispanic, and Native Americans to earn doctorate degrees.
Participating adults and high school students listened to various presentations and engaged in different scenarios to help understand peer similarities and differences and how those things can unite to make the community a better place.
As the students learn more about great Black historical figures, like George Washington Carver, the enjoyed a variety of peanut butter products.
The Community Enrichment Dinner brought people together to recognize those people and businesses in this area that are rising to make their mark.
Bradley says that Rhodes State College is starting with themselves first to increase inclusion as they are partnering with the Ohio and the National Diversity Councils. This will give them a broader opportunity for professional development to enhance the college and their students.
Dean Tim Rehner joined the diversity committee in order to welcome new students to the committee as well as help those who want to get involved more on campus. Through a wide variety of events planned throughout the year, the committee hopes to make the campus a place where all students can get involved and feel welcome.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion workshop was held at the Lima Community Church Axis Center, where various community leaders attended to learn more about how they can improve the area. An emphasis was placed on seeking different opinions, and including the voices of everyone when making an informed decision.
Keynote speaker Tina Bell, CEO of Phoenix Consulting Company explains, “Leaders are judged by the size of the problems they can resolve and how quickly they can resolve them. The more people you know the more circumstances that you can understand that are different from yours and the better you are able to be helpful.”
For each opening, the top ten individuals who scored the highest on the civil service board test are considered for each city position. The board passed a motion that will allow everyone who passed the civil service board test to be considered for a city position. The city is hoping that this will encourage a greater volume of applications, which will then bring in a more diverse group of applicants.
The current Congress in the most diverse congress yet in terms of both color and gender, and according to one of Ohio Northern University's assistant professors of political science it is most likely because of today's political climate.
