LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Allen Lima Leadership and All Youth Leadership came together on Friday for Diversity Day.

Adults and high school students listened to various presentations and engaged in different scenarios to help understand peer similarities and differences.
Friday's focus was "Diversity is a Fact of Life." Participating adults and high school students listened to various presentations and engaged in different scenarios to help understand peer similarities and differences and how those things can unite to make the community a better place. One of the key activities was the case conversations, where groups of 20 simulate a town and must solve a conflict through getting to know each other, an effort to show embracing diversity enhances life.
“Diversity is not at all about division. In fact, it's about multiplication. It's about making sure that we multiply our efforts and our strengths, our opportunities to make the community and the world a better place,” says Toni Bell, CEO & Chief Learning Officer, Phoenix Consulting Company.
We also spoke with one high school student about how Friday's lessons will help her in the future.
“I think that it will greatly add to my ability to communicate well with others as well as being able to guide myself when I have setbacks and when I’m having hardships and challenges. Not only in the workforce, but just as a person trying to live my life every day, and I think that learning these skills and different abilities will help me, not only in the workforce, not only as a person, but to also understand other people,” says Maddison Ochs, a junior attending Apollo Career Center.
Diversity Day has been an ongoing event since the Allen Lima Leadership Group began.
