The Lima Fire Department is one small step closer to building a new fire station. Back in October, Lima Fire Chief, Jack McDermitt, told Your Hometown Stations that a study is being conducted by the Ohio Fire Chief's Association. That study will determine what the new fire station will look like. Also back in October, Lima City Council passed legislation to create a capital fund project for the fire station construction. On Monday night, councilors voted to transfer money to the project fund marking a little bit of progress of making the new fire station a reality.

The Lima Chapter of the NAACP is supporting high school students who are ready to take that next step to college. On July 20th, they will be holding their 9th annual scholarship banquet at the Graduate Medical Building at Mercy Health-St. Rita's. The Lima chapter is looking to help as many students as they can from school districts around Lima, and by coming to the banquet, you can help fund the scholarship program.
Lima City Council green lights over $250,000 to be allocated for over a dozen community projects. The city will be distributing around $278,000 of CDBG and Home funds to 13 projects that provide support services for people and families with low-to-moderate income.

Ada is in position to get some needed infrastructure work done, thanks to Community Development Block Grant funds. The last American Community Survey by the U.S. Census Bureau found that 2/3 of the village qualified for the federal funding that that is part of the Neighborhood Revitalization Program. This is the 1st time that Ada has been eligible for the funding and the village could apply for a grant worth $750,000. That money could be used for projects in those qualifying areas, like new sidewalks, replacing outdated or not operational fire hydrants and street work. But this could be the catalyst for other improvements in Ada.

Elida High School and Elida Middle School represent two of the 708 schools in Ohio, out of more than 2,000 schools that applied, to be awarded these grant funds. "We are grateful for the funding that is being provided so that we can continue to improve the safety and security of our school buildings for our students and staff. It will allow us to make improvements not only in the physical aspects of site security, but also improve network and cyber security as well.
The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program through Crime Victim Services is holding their major fundraiser the "Superhero 5K" to raise money to assist in the training of court-appointed advocates. They work to make sure the juvenile has a safe, stable, and permanent home along with meeting other needs. Serving Putnam and Allen County, "CASA" is only serving half of the children that need assistance and are looking for more volunteers.
