LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Fire Department is one small step closer to building a new fire station.

$760,000 will be moved into capital project fund for new Lima Fire Station project.jpg

Back in October, Lima Fire Chief Jack McDermitt told Your Hometown Stations that a study is being conducted by the Ohio Fire Chief's Association. That study will determine what the new fire station will look like. Also back in October, the Lima City Council passed legislation to create a capital fund project for the fire station construction. On Monday night, councilors voted to transfer money to the project fund, marking a little bit of progress toward making the new fire station a reality.

"We had, on the agenda, to move some money into the capital budget for our station. They transferred over $760,000. It's about the amount of money we collect in EMS billing this year. We're still waiting on our study to come back. We hope to have it back before the end of the year, and that'll provide us a path forward," says Chief Jack McDermitt, Lima Fire Department.

In other business, the Lima City Council passed a resolution congratulating Andrew "Mighty Joe" Young III for his induction into the USA Softball Hall of Fame.
