LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima City Council green lights over $250,000 to be allocated for over a dozen community projects.
The city will be distributing around $278,000 of CDBG and Home funds to 13 projects that provide support services for people and families with low-to-moderate income. Some project recipients include Fair Housing Services and Housing Counseling with WOCAP, the Senior Health and Wellness Program with the Bradfield Center, and My Brother's Keeper with Lima City Schools. With these funds, the services will help around 1,100 individuals or households.
"It's very important that we actually get that money out into the community so that we can help them continuously run their programs smoothly and to help with all the things that they may need whether that be equipment, books, anything like that that would help those programs," says Carmillia Zion, Acting Director of the Department of Housing and Neighborhoods, City of Lima.
The following projects and their organizations received CDBG funds:
- Fair Housing Services, WOCAP: $25,200
- Housing Counseling, WOCAP: $25,200
- Senior Health and Wellness Program, Bradfield Center: $51,000
- My Brother's Keeper, Lima City Schools: $20,000
- Soldiers of Honor, Soldiers of Honor: $20,000
- Youth for Change, GL Theatrix CTA: $6,000
- Freedom School, Trinity UMC: $25,000
- Sponsor-A-Child, Oheneba Soccer Academy: $5,000
- Senior Oasis, Allen County Council on Aging: $15,000
- Empower to Succeed, Mothers Helping Mothers: $16,000
The following projects and their organizations received Home funds:
- Housing Property Maintenance Training, New Lima-Housing for the Future, Inc.: $10,000
- First Home Lima Administrative Support, New Lima-Housing for the Future, Inc.: $19,800
- Single Family Home, Habitat for Humanity: $40,000
