Over 100 individuals, organizations, and community groups registered trees that will be decorated for everyone's enjoyment.  The community can plan to enjoy the traditions that have come to be part of the event including Evergreen, The Talking Tree, the woodcarvers and rug hookers, fingerprint plaques, The Little Children's Shoppe, and the reading aloud of The Polar Express. Visitors can also look for the photo wreath display to continue their ongoing tradition or take part in a new tradition by taking a photo with Santa. Families can enjoy an exhibit of student artwork from Lima City Elementary Schools in the museum's auditorium.

Penny Hudson was one of five individuals recognized as “Outstanding Master Gardener Volunteer” at the 2022 MGV State Conference Awards Program held October 7-8 in Cuyahoga County near Cleveland. The local Hardin County OSU Extension group was also nominated for five other state awards at the conference. The project ‘Children’s Garden’ was recognized in the “Environmental Horticulture Outstanding MGV Project” award category for small sized groups. Cessna Transport was recognized for the “Friend of the OSU Extension MGV Program.” Mark Badertscher was recognized by his peers for being nominated as an “Outstanding MGV Coordinator” in the paid staff category.

Master Gardener Gretchen Staley says summer-loving veggies like tomatoes, peppers, and zucchini cannot tolerate the freezing temperatures. Using cloth material like a blanket or old bed sheet is the best way to go when covering and it's best to avoid using plastic. With a light freeze expected, many hardier veggies and plants will survive - especially those near a building or under a tree.

Lima Allen County Neighborhoods in Partnership and Activate Allen County are hosting a "Plant Swap". This is for houseplants that are not intended for outdoor use over the fall and winter seasons. Many avid gardeners grow more tropical indoor plants and this is a chance to share and build upon your own collection of plants and meet people with a similar interest in gardening.

It's harvest time for many backyard yard crops. Tomatoes are filling the vines and knowing when to pick them to get the best flavors is tricky. Master gardeners say that since they are fruits because they have seeds, they can be picked early and they will still ripen once off the vine. The best time is when the tomato just starts to "blush" in color.

Tuesday, the Allen County Master Gardeners hosted "Oldster Gardening" at the Weekly Brown Bag Series. They shared tips on how things change as you age like different ways to grip the garden tools and changing up what you plant and where you plant it. All in an effort to continue your love of gardening as long as you can.
