Troy Elwer, the fair’s promotions and operations manager, spoke Monday at the Lima Rotary Club, giving an update on preparations at the fairgrounds for the big event.
“This is really an exciting, straightforward way to show the streetscape improvements that will be coming to downtown, and to allow the public to supply their input and comment,” said Lima City Engineer Ian Kohli.
The organization will host an open house reunion at its campus, encouraging all past participants to visit and explore the many improvements made over the years. Changes include upgrades to the classroom as well as enhancements to the signature structures that define Safety City.

Plans for a major road construction project in Shawnee Township are underway. The Allen County Engineer has secured federal funding that will cover the majority of a 2.8-million-dollar project that will make improvements at both the Shawnee Road and Breese Road intersection along with the South Dixie and Breese Road intersection. Breese Road between the two intersections will also get improvements along with new pavement. A recent study has been completed on what changes would increase the safety of those areas.

Tuesday was a big day for the Allen County Regional Airport as airport officials presented finalized projects to community leaders. Since 2016, the airport has pursued numerous projects to sustain and enhance aviation operations.
The Allen County Commissioners passed a resolution on Tuesday to enter into a grant agreement with the airport as well as the U.S Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The grant will provide a total of $2,130,300.00. That money will be used to reconstruct runway 10/28 lighting; reconstruct taxiway lighting, seal runway 10/28 pavement surface (6,000 ft) and rehabilitate apron pavement surface (20,889 square yards).
