WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - The Auglaize County Fair officially opened Saturday afternoon. This year's fair is shaping up to be another good one.
Just a few of the events fairgoers can look forward to are the final round of the Country Star Playoffs singing competition on Wednesday, a rodeo on Friday, and a new daily show featuring monkeys riding dogs.
The Junior Fair competitors have been hard at work on their projects, and there's plenty of entertainment for the whole family. Since the last fair, the board has been working with community sponsors to improve existing facilities and add a new one.
"The Veterans Pavilion is new this year. That was put up by the Auglaize County Veterans Association; we appreciate them. We did some remodeling on a few of the buildings, some new blacktop work, some paint jobs, some new siding on some things. Just always trying to improve the fairgrounds and keep them up to the expectations that we want," explained Ed Doenges, the fair manager.
The Junior Fair competitors have been hard at work on their projects, and there's plenty of entertainment for the whole family.
This year will be the last for Doenges, who is stepping down after serving in various roles with the fair board for over 25 years.
"When you pull off an event like the week of the fair and it goes well, there's nothing like the feeling like that. And whether it's another event throughout the year, it's just great to be a part of it and know, yes, I helped with that, and I orchestrated that," he continued.
Monday is Senior Day at the fair. For guests age 60 and up, admission is only $5. You can find the full schedule of events at the Auglaize County Fair's website.
