“One of the recurring themes is, when a leader gets better, everybody wins,” said Joe Patton, director of OhioMeansJobs Allen County. “But a lot of people don't realize they can lead from where they're at. So I think that's a big thing. We like to bring our leadership team, from both management on down to line staff, because we're trying to develop future leaders at our agency and for the county, and this is a great place where they can get inspired.”

Busy leaders don't change the world; focused leaders do. That was one of the messages at the 2024 Global Leadership Summit being broadcast from Chicago.  The Lima Community Church has been a host site for a decade now to encourage local leaders to lead wisely, boldly, and where they are. Hundreds of people from all walks of life from around the region gathered to sharpen their leadership skills to make their communities a better place.

Andrew’s House reached out to Lima Community Church, and through that partnership, the Garden of Hope was founded. Located right across the street from the church, the Garden of Hope is tended to by the women at Andrew’s House. Organizers say that it provides some sustainability and employment for the women, and teaches them tangible skills.

Many community meals planned since March have transitioned to a drive-thru or curbside style pickup to minimize contact between people. One of the biggest meals of the year is the Lima community thanksgiving dinner, and it took involvement from many different local businesses and organizations to pull it off this year.

Since March, the affects of the pandemic have weighed down on people,  many feeling isolated from loved ones. One time of year that people may be feeling that the most is throughout the holiday season, as people may not be meeting in the same way as they usually do because of COVID-19.
