They are the backbone of many organizations, and on Thursday, Mercy Health-St. Rita's thanked their volunteers. It was a real hoedown as many of their 270+ volunteers gathered for their annual recognition luncheon. They do everything from assisting patients to raising money with the gift and thrift shop and their holiday bazaars. The volunteer auxiliary presented the final installment in their $1 million pledge. The $295,000 check completed their current 5-year pledge to the graduate medical education building. The auxiliary says they enjoy doing what they do to help the hospital.

He shared the role of the auditor and his staff to place checks and balances on state and local governments to be more efficient, effective, and transparent. Most recently, they released a report on Medicaid that showed more than 100,000 people registered in Ohio as well as up to eight other states, costing Ohioans nearly a billion dollars.

The volunteers help in various parts of the hospital and show their support for the medical center's vision by helping raise money for needed improvements, like the auxiliary's one-million-dollar commitment to the graduate medical education program. We ask some of them what they see is their impact on visitors and staff at the hospital.
