As students returned for the second semester, Lima West Middle School hosted its second annual Winter Reading Night, giving students the opportunity to explore a variety of literary genres.
“For the eighth through 11th graders, it's an opportunity for you to get some exposure,” said Londell Smith of the Smith Jones Family Foundation. “You can see what it might be like. You can see if you can see yourself in that environment. Get some information in terms of what you have to do to prepare to be able to maximize that environment. That way when you come back home, you know what to do in school.”
“We're the last line of defense,” Welker said. “We feel strongly that we're here to protect the environment, and it's a complicated procedure, but we're going to explain to them how we use biology to get waste out of water so it can be returned back into the water use stream.”
The middle age group of students at the Rhodesology summer camp earlier this month had a variety of experiences to check out.
An annual tradition at Shawnee Middle School that prepares its students for the future was put on once again on Thursday.
Around a dozen students flexed their knowledge in the National Civics Bee, hosted by the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce. The local chamber was one of only two in Ohio to host the competition for students in sixth through eighth grade.
