Allen County residents gathered in prayer Thursday, lifting their voices in a show of hope and unity during the local observance of the National Day of Prayer.
In Auglaize County, the Wapakoneta Area Ministerial Association held its annual Day of Prayer celebration outside of the fire station. The religious leaders from the different Wapakoneta churches took turns saying prayers for nine segments of our country, like the military, families, and the church itself. But even though they come from different religious backgrounds, they are unified when it comes to praying over where they live.
Community and faith leaders alike led a crowd of Lima residents in prayers to show their Christian faith. There were prayers for law enforcement and first responders along with those in the field of education. The Temple Christian High School choir was also on hand, singing Christian songs between prayers.
"It says in the Bible that when the righteous are in power, the people rejoice, when the evil are in power, the people groan," said Theresa Lee, a coordinator for the event. "There are a lot of times that we need prayer. Prayer for our counties, for our states, for our nation, everyone needs it. For our schools, for our children. We've seen answered prayer in America, and we are going to continue to see it because God answers prayer."
The National Day of Prayer is a national observance for people to come together and pray for the world. Scriptures, songs, and quotes from founding fathers and presidents were read aloud during the service, along with words from local pastors. Organizers say that the nation needs prayer more than ever, especially after the pandemic has caused complications to many different prayer services.
Pastors and other members of the community joined together to pray for the country at the UNOH Event Center. In honor of the 68th annual National Day of Prayer, pastors and community leaders took turns leading prayers for people all around the country, from first responders and civic leaders to families and opioid addiction. Part of what makes the event special is that a diverse group of denominations show up to celebrate what they have in common.

A large crowd Thursday night at the City Center, as the community gathered to observe the National Day of Prayer. The Lima Interfaith Council held the event. It was a time for people of all faiths to come together without judgment.
