LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Allen County residents gathered in prayer Thursday, lifting their voices in a show of hope and unity during the local observance of the National Day of Prayer.
Religious and community leaders joined together to offer prayers for the country, government officials, the military, and other areas of need. Participants also prayed for an end to violence, human trafficking, and drug addiction.
Organizers said the event is a vital reminder of the power of collective prayer and its historical role in shaping the community.

“Our country has been founded on prayer, and so it should never discontinue. Everyone that's there now on the front lines need us to pray. And even if you like someone or you don't like them, they still need prayer. So we might be divided sometimes in our political views, but the people still need prayer that are up there for guidance, no matter whether we like them or not. God loves them. He put them in those positions, and so we need to undergird them in prayer,” said Theresa Lee, coordinator of the Allen County National Day of Prayer.
This year marked the 74th annual National Day of Prayer in the United States, which is held every year on the first Thursday in May.
