LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Allen County Democratic Party is working to build momentum ahead of this fall’s midterm elections, hosting a “Building a Blue Wave” event Thursday night to energize local supporters and connect voters with candidates.

Party members gathered to meet, discuss key issues, and hear from candidates as organizers emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement in the months leading up to the election.

The keynote speaker for the event was Senator Casey Weinstein, who currently represents Ohio’s 28th Senate District. Weinstein was first elected in 2018 and served three terms in the Ohio House before winning his seat in the Ohio Senate.

He now serves as the ranking member on the Senate Armed Services, Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, as well as the Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee. During his remarks, Weinstein said he has made it a priority to travel across Ohio to address concerns about decisions made by the Republican majority in the Statehouse.

“Weinstein said, ‘Our communities, our libraries, our public schools, clean water, Medicaid, higher education, you know, having local government funds available to make investments in safe communities and in strong communities and in parks and the infrastructure that makes builds up the foundation of Ohio, all of that's at stake right now.’”

Weinstein added that he has seen growing energy at events across the state, with increased engagement from voters on issues that often cross party lines, including public safety and access to clean water.

Local party leaders say events like this are designed to build enthusiasm, strengthen connections, and prepare volunteers and candidates for a competitive midterm election season.
