Turning a great idea into a successful business is the whole mindset of the Walter C. Potts Entrepreneur Center. The organization provides leadership and support for those starting up a business in the Lima/Allen County area, especially those that are minority and women owned.

There are 3 categories of individuals, groups, and businesses to be recognized. LACNIP wants to say thank you to people who improve their community in any way from helping a neighbor to participating in a larger project that improves the neighborhood. Nominations are also open for the Shirley Daley Leadership Award for those who encourage collaboration, diversity, and promote a positive image for Lima - Allen County.

The Lima Fire Department is still investigating a fire that severely damaged a home early Friday morning. Fire crews were called to 545 Michael Avenue around midnight.  When they arrived, fire was on both the first and second stories of the home, the fire also caused a partial collapse of the roof.  No one was home at the time of the fire, neighbors says the residents were home before the fire started.  Fire officials are still trying to determine the cause, but they believe the fire started in the rear of the home near the back porch.

Lima native and 6th Ward Lima City Councilman Derry Glenn has been giving back to the community all of his life. He says he got that from his parents. He has started programs like rent a kid, neighbors helping neighbors, air conditioners for seniors, John Lewis Day, and others. He doesn't want to see anyone left behind and will do what it takes to help others.

After working for kids at Allen County Children Services Board and then senior citizens at Mennonite Home Communities in Bluffton for 37 years, Laura Voth decided she need to find another purpose in life and in her small way try and make the world a better place.
