The Lima Kiwanis Club has donated proceeds from their virtual pet contest to three local organizations: Deb's Dogs, A Lotta Love Pet Rescue, and the Ohio SPCA & Humane Society Adoption Center of Allen County.
ELIDA, OH (WLIO) - For the third year, the Ohio SPCA and Humane Society is raising money to support their animals with a yard sale.
The Ohio SPCA is looking into a case involving animals being left behind in Allen County.
While donations have dramatically decreased, the incoming animals have remained steady and many of them need medical help. On top of the supplies needed to care for over 300 animals, the SPCA is running low on funds to keep up with maintenance of the building as well. They’re reaching out to ask for donations of all kinds, big and small.
The Ohio OSPCA, located off State Route 309 here in Allen County, is running on a skeleton crew during the pandemic as the number of animals coming into the facility continues to grow. They currently have 200 cats and several dozen dogs waiting for their forever home. The agency is in need of donations to care for the animals as their main source of funding is not coming in.
The Ohio SPCA is investigating the horrific death of a German Shepherd dog that took place here in Lima last month. The SPCA says a cruelty investigator responded to a call of a dog that was beaten and set on fire on a set of railroad tracks in the area of 300 East Elm Street and Central Avenue on March 27th. The caller said the suspects were two young black men who were carrying a gas can and started a fire.
Today close to 200 people and their furry friends participated in a special egg hunt, in hopes of finding the golden egg.
There were over 3,000 hidden eggs at the Ohio SPCA's Dog-Gone Egg Hunt. But only one had the ticket with the trip to the Caribbean. People searched far and wide, and after about 15 minutes, one lucky family found the golden egg.
The Ohio SPCA invited out Lima's furry little friends for an opportunity to get their photo with Santa "Paws".
