The Lima Allen County Regional Planning Commission has been selected by Governor Mike DeWine to become one of seven regional transportation planning organizations in the state. The newly formed West-Central Ohio Rural Planning Organization, or WORPO, will serve Auglaize, Hancock, Hardin, Mercer, Van Wert, Putnam, and Wyandot counties. This organization can give rural counties outside of the Allen County Metropolitan Planning Organization funding and resources for transportation projects and allow multi-jurisdictional collaboration. The process of getting this designation took two years but will now give rural counties an opportunity to finance more road projects.

These programs have earned the status of Accredited for 2 years.

November is recognized as Hire a Veteran Month, but OhioMeansJobs Allen County says hiring veterans should be a practice you do all year long. OhioMeansJobs officials say they have a special skill set that those who have never been in the military may not possess. Veterans move to the top of the list for assistance when looking for employment.

A new opportunity to find employment and jobs in the manufacturing field is coming to the Lima area. The National Center for Urban Solutions and West Central Ohio Manufacturing Partnership are coming together to provide a new advanced manufacturing training and employment placement program within the local Lima community. The program allows students to receive training in manufacturing, workplace readiness, and career coaching.

Nutrien’s Lima Nitrogen facility has been named one of Crain’s Cleveland Business’ 2024 Best Employers in Ohio. Ranking #12 in the large employer category, Nutrien was recognized for unique employee benefits including a charitable donation matching program that offers up to $5,000 per employee, per year; the opportunity to volunteer during work hours; as well as a program where employees can volunteer outside of work hours to earn reward dollars that they can donate to eligible charities or non-profits.

Lima Sister Cities Association is celebrating a 25-year relationship with Harima-cho, Japan. To help mark the quarter century of friendship and collaboration, the organization is starting a large project to document the history of the sister city partnership. They are looking for old photos, videos, and even some short letters either from trips to Japan or from people hosting representatives of Harima-cho here in Lima. The project will not only show the cultural exchange between the two cities but also the growth of the program over the last two decades.

The City of Lima will be distributing over one million dollars of home and CDBG funds into the community for various projects. For 2024, a little over 275,000 of home funds and about $1.05 million of CDBG funds combined for a grand total of approximately $1.33 million will be funneled into the city. These numbers do not include additional carryover funds also being distributed out. Out of the 28 applications, 27 projects will receive a portion of these funds with the goal of positively enhancing community operations.

July 3, 2024, Press Release from Downtown Lima, Inc.: Downtown Lima, Inc. welcomes its new Executive Director, Cricket Rodriguez. Rodriguez started the position July 1 and follows Betsy Billingsley, who recently accepted the position of Executive Director for Visit Greater Lima. Rodriguez comes to Downtown Lima, Inc. with 15 years of experience in management, leadership, and organization. Most recently she served as the executive assistant of Midwest Guardian, overseeing daily operations and payroll. Prior, she was a national account representative for Celina Moving and Storage, concurrently managing up to 50 accounts, and for 10 years she was a receiving manager for Tractor Supply Company where she served as the district trainer for new receiving managers and was often honored for her customer service skills and inventory accuracy.
