While the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is over for most of us, the Lima Salvation Army is still hard at work. Thanks to the community's generosity, their Red Kettle Campaign made just over $119,000. Their goal was $128,000 to help fund the programs they offer throughout the year. The kettle donations did help them meet their needs at Christmas.
Over 1,000 kids from around 450 families will be having a better Christmas thanks to the Lima Salvation Army and area residents. The families that signed up for the Christmas Assistance Program have been picking up their items at the Salvation Army over the past couple of days. They will get not only three toys and stocking stuffers for each kid but also some clothing for members of the family and food.
Thanks to your help, we had another successful Truckload of Toys this year. The Lima Salvation Army says that 630 toys and stocking stuffers were collected at the Allentown Road Walmart on Saturday. Besides the toys, we got a lot of cash donations to help purchase toys to help fill the wish lists of over 1,000 local kids this Christmas. We want to thank Kewpee for the coupons for us to pass out and the Marine Corps Reserves, along with the Lima Noon Optimist, for helping collect the toys.
The sound of bells ringing goes hand in hand with a long-time fundraising event to help those in need. The Lima Salvation Army kicked off its Red Kettle Campaign on Thursday as hundreds of families have signed up for assistance this holiday. Nearly 700 families, which included 1,700 children under 12 years of age, were helped last Christmas. This year's goal is $130,000, which not only helps people at the holidays but throughout the year with your help.

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The annual "Red Kettle Campaign" has just a few days left and unfortunately, the weather is not cooperating.
Today, the Lima Salvation Army kicked off their annual Red Kettle Campaign. Their goal is $125,000. Those funds will stay local to help individuals and families that need assistance this holiday season and throughout the year. Most well-known is the Christmas assistance that the Salvation Army provides with the community's help. If you missed their sign up they will be having another opportunity to register on Tuesday, November 15th. They are also looking for individuals, groups, and organizations to donate time to ring the bells this holiday season.
The 2020 goal was $125,000 and the kettles brought in $135,000. The army saw 220 volunteers donating more than 1,000 hours ringing the bells. Salvation Army officials say they are thankful for the community’s support, especially during the pandemic. The dollars raised will go back out into the community helping people in need with rent and utility assistance along with food and social services.
The Red Kettle Campaign has officially ended, but the Lima Salvation Army still needs your help. This year they were $20,000 under their campaign goal. For 2019 they expected to raise $125,000 but the holiday season was shorter and they lost six of their bell ringers because of illnesses. These are just some of the factors that prevented them from meeting their goal. The Lima Salvation Army major says raising this money is important because it helps fund their social service assistance and with yearly programs.
The Lima Salvation Army is asking the public for a little help as the holiday season gets closer and closer. The annual Red Kettle Campaign kicks off Monday, November 4th, and the Salvation Army is looking for bell ringers to stand at different locations throughout the Lima-Allen County area. Their goal this year is to raise $125,000, which will make a big impact for the Salvation Army as they continue their mission throughout the year.
