The families that signed up for the Christmas Assistance Program have been picking up their items at the Salvation Army over the past couple of days. They will get not only three toys and stocking stuffers for each kid but also some clothing for members of the family and food.

There were a lot of people and businesses that stepped up to help some in the area celebrate this holiday season.

The Salvation Army's red kettles are only going to be out in the community until December 24th, and they are $32,000 away from their goal, which funds various programs at the Salvation Army.

"The community has reached out a lot this year, as in many other years, but this year something must have just touched them. It's just a blessing knowing that there are so many out there that are willing to help the community out, not only with toys, but they are helping with clothing too," says Capt. Charity Bender, Lima Salvation Army.

"As you know, we have programs that go throughout the year, not just Christmas, but throughout the year is why we are raising money. So, it supports the food pantry and the afterschool programs and all those different programs that we provide throughout the year. So, you can stop by anytime, and we will put your money to good use," says Paul Downing, Lima Salvation Army.
