Crews were on the scene of a semi versus train crash for several hours in Putnam County Tuesday morning.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers say 40-year-old Matthew Fought of Lima was driving his rig north on the interstate near State Route 81 when he crossed the white edge line. He hit an Ohio Department of Transportation truck parked on the east shoulder, with its emergency lights and arrow board flashing. The semi went off the left side of the highway and ended up in the median. The ODOT worker, 32-year-old Caleb Varhees of Cridersville, was taken to St. Rita's with minor injuries. Troopers say both men were wearing seatbelts. The northbound lanes had to be briefly shut down to clean up the mess.
A semi-truck was on Interstate 75 when another passing trucker let the driver know his axle was on fire. He left the interstate and looked for a place to pull off and check his rig. He pulled into Diamond Manufacturing where a fire in the trailer caused a tire to blow up, resulting in what many thought was an explosion. The truck driver was able to pull his cab away from the trailer while a quick response from Bluffton firefighters put out the flames in the trailer loaded with pallets. The truck trailer suffered serious damage. No one is believed to have been injured.
Police report that 71-year-old John Reigle was found dead at the intersection of Baxter and North Streets around 10 p.m. Monday night. Detectives looked at several surveillance videos in the area along North street and discovered that Reigle was struck by a semi-truck. The semi fled the area after the crash going westbound on SR 81.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was on the scene of an overturned semi-truck on I-75. The crash happened around 10 Tuesday morning, on mile marker 99 of I-75, just outside of Anna. The semi was hauling car parts when it ended up on its side, causing part of 75 to close for several hours. Anna Fire Department was also on the scene. A semi flipped over near Findlay this afternoon causing traffic problems. A semi-truck blocked both lanes on Interstate 75 just south of Findlay causing traffic to be backed up for hours after flipping late in the afternoon. Firefighters and tow trucks were able to flip the truck over at around 6:15 p.m. We do not have any details about injuries or details of the crash at this time but we will update you as soon as we learn more.
No one was hurt after a semi truck crashed into another semi on the 400 block of East Main. The Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the call at around 12:30 this afternoon for a crash between two semi trucks right off the I-75 exit. One truck was traveling on East Main Street when it was hit by a blue semi truck. A state highway patrol officer says the blue truck ran a red light turning off of the exit. The driver of the blue truck was cleared by the EMS and no one was hospitalized.
We have new information about a semi that drove through a house and into a gas station in Dunkirk. It happened near 81 and State Route 68 around 12:30 Friday afternoon. The Hardin County Sheriff's Office says the semi driver drove off the road and into the house. A man who was inside the house, Jerry Smith, was life-flighted to the hospital. The driver was also hurt and taken to the hospital. It's not clear what the injuries are for both of them.
A two semi accident on U.S. 30 Monday afternoon sends two people to the hospital. A semi driver was traveling eastbound on U.S. 30 by Thayer Road when he suddenly slammed his brakes, possibly due to a car that was along the side of the road. A semi-truck following close behind didn't react in time and crashed into the first semi. A male and female in the second semi had to be removed by the Beaverdam Fire Department because they were trapped. Both of them were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A motorist receives only minor injuries after being struck by a semi on U.S. 30 Thursday morning. The accident happened around 7:30 at the intersection of Cool Road and U.S. 30. Ohio Highway Patrol Troopers say the driver of the white car was heading south on Cool Road when the motorist didn't stop at the stop sign and drove into the path of the semi.
