There was an accident earlier Thursday with a car crashing into the side of a house. Shawnee Township police and fire departments responded to the call in the 3,800 block of Fort Amanda Road. It is unknown if anybody was in the home at the time of the accident.

Shawnee Township first responders are getting some new equipment thanks to Marathon Petroleum. The Lima Marathon Pipeline and the Lima Marathon Terminal donated a combined $9,600 to the Shawnee Township Police and fire departments. The police department will be using the donation toward a couple of portable MARCS radios, and the fire department will be getting 8 communication headsets for their trucks.

October 2, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Department of Public Safety: (COLUMBUS, Ohio) – The Office of Criminal Justice Services announced today the certification of one Ohio law enforcement agency for state standards established by the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board. Thirteen additional agencies achieved their recertification. Agencies completing the certification process have adopted and implemented the initial two standards regarding use of force and hiring and recruitment while the recertification process takes place on a revolving, three to four-year cycle.

41-year-old John Rondot was charged with failure to stop after an accident by the Allen County Grand Jury. The charge is a 3rd-degree felony. On October 16th, Shawnee Township police say that 18-year-old Ethan Howard was riding his bike south on Shawnee Road when he was struck from behind by a car. Howard was taken to the hospital by Shawnee Fire, where he later died from his injuries. Rondot called the Shawnee Township Police Department two hours after the accident, claiming he hit a deer. He will be arraigned on the charge he is facing on November 19th.

At around 2:30 p.m., first responders were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving an SUV and a bus at the intersection of South Kemp Road and Spencerville Road in Amanda Township. According to the Shawnee Township Police Department, five people were transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s with no serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
