Former Shawnee school resource officer indicted on multiple criminal charges

ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - A former Shawnee Township detective and Apollo Career Center school resource officer has been indicted on several charges following an investigation by the Ohio BCI.

An Allen County Grand Jury indicted Jeremy Shellenbarger on two counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor or impaired person, and two counts of illegal use of a minor or impaired person in nudity oriented material or performance.

Shellenbarger has entered a not-guilty plea.

According to court documents, the alleged incident happened in September of last year when Shellenbarger was working as a school resource officer for the Apollo Career Center. The Shawnee Police Department received a complaint in December of 2022 about inappropriate social media use by Shellenbarger.

Shawnee Police Chief Robert Kohli had the Ohio BCI conduct an investigation, along with an internal investigation by the department itself. Shellenbarger resigned in the final stages of that investigation.
