The “Flame of Hope” passed through Findlay on its way to Jesse Owens Memorial stadium for the Special Olympics Summer Games.
The DECA students raised the money through the Joy Project basketball game, which featured face painting, sugar cookies, and various merchandise to ensure local athletes with disabilities can participate in the Special Olympics.
The Mercer County Special Olympics and the Mercer County Sheriff's Office battled it out on the basketball court on Monday night. Inside the Celina Field House was the 4th annual "Bobcats" versus "Deputies" basketball game where the Special Olympics and Sheriff's Office teams fought for king of the hardwood. Earlier in the evening, the Special Olympics Skills Team, known as the Wildcats, also put the Deputies' basketball skills to the test with their own game with the Special Olympics and Unified Cheer Teams performing between the two games. This annual basketball game has grown over the past few years and attracts many in the community to join.

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - First responders hit the hardwood to raise money for the Allen County Special Olympics.
The Sharks have played in many Special Olympic state basketball championships, bringing home gold. Each year, the two teams play this charity ballgame, raising funds for the Special Olympics while also bringing attention to the athletic abilities they have on the hardwood.
A Special Olympics tradition continued on through Allen County. Local law enforcement took part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on Monday. Athletes began running through Lima, then later meeting up with law enforcement and finishing their run to town square. Everyone was then treated to lunch at the Rotary Club. Local coordinator Stacy Crouse said this is a great event to bring awareness to Special Olympics.
It was Shark Night at the YMCA Annex as the community came out to congratulate the Special Olympics team on a good season.
State basketball is the big story around Ohio this weekend, and one team from Allen County is looking to bring home their second state title in three years. Friday afternoon was the big sendoff for the Allen County Sharks Special Olympics basketball team. All twelve members of the sharks loaded the bus at 3 p.m. to head down to the Buckeye capital.
Some Allen County athletes are hoping their opponents will think it's not safe to get into the water this weekend. The Allen County Sharks are heading back to the state tournament. The Sharks are our local Special Olympics basketball team. They won the championship in 2016 and are heading back to Hilliard, Ohio this Friday with what some say is their best team yet.
