It was Shark Night at the YMCA Annex as the community came out to congratulate the Special Olympics team on a good season.
The Special Olympics men's basketball team came in fourth at the division two state tournament this weekend in Columbus. The team last made it to the state tournament in division three in 2016, where they won first place. While the competition is what draws the teammates in, the athletes get so much more from being on the Sharks' team.
"They get to participate with each other and they also get to interact with the community because the community can be involved with and our volunteers can be involved with them, and the coaches," said Stacy Crouse, Local Coordinator for the Allen County Special Olympics. "They're getting relationships. It's not just about playing a game or a sport, it's about the building of relationships
The Sharks were undefeated going into the state tournament.
