LIMA, OH (WLIO) - It has become a friendly rivalry, raising money for a special cause in Allen County. They call it the Allen County Basketball Classic, which pits first responders against the state-champion Sharks.
The Sharks have played in many Special Olympic state basketball championships, bringing home gold.
Each year, the two teams play this charity ballgame, raising funds for the Special Olympics while also bringing attention to the athletic abilities they have on the hardwood.
"The whole mission of Special Olympics is to provide that outlet where people with special needs can share their talents and kind of give them a stage where they can be cheered on for their abilities," commented Randy Crouse, coach of the Sharks.
The game is scheduled for Thursday, April 25th, at 7 p.m. at Lima Senior High School, located at 1 Spartan Way, Lima, OH 45801. Admission is a free-will donation. There will also be half-time activities. The funds raised will help with costs for the Sharks to head to state this year.
