For the past decade, the annual Fishing Derby has been a staple of the Star Spangled Spectacular, giving families a chance to learn basic angling skills like tying knots, baiting hooks, and removing fish from their lines.
The Star Spangled Spectacular kicked off a full day of activities with the Freedom 5K. Over 400 runners and walkers braved the heat Friday morning to take on the more than three-mile course around Lima.

The organizers of the 4th of July Veterans Cruise-in presented a check to the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio. The donation will provide much-needed food assistance to veterans, their spouses, and active-duty service personnel. The organizers were able to raise twelve hundred dollars through donations at the Veterans Cruise-in Car Show in Faurot Park as part of the Star Spangled Spectacular, and they are happy to help those who served.

The annual Veterans' Appreciation Car Cruise-in at the Star Spangled Spectacular is looking for cars and trucks to participate. There will be more than 40 prizes to be awarded in several categories. It's located east of Diamond One in Faurot Park and is free and open to the public.
