The committee met and continued the previous discussion they had regarding the issue. There were several food truck vendors that attended the meeting and voiced their opinions on what the council should do and gave their personal experiences on running their businesses. The conversation led them to set a framework for future action council will take. The group agreed that there needs to be a checklist of inspections that vendors would need to show proof of in order to obtain a permit to sell food in the city of Lima.
The committee met and discussed the current laws they have and how to better laws for the safety of the community. One big concern brought up at the meeting was that they don’t have a plan in place to tell who is coming into the city and if they are operating safely within the city limits. A food truck operator brought up issues that he has seen on the streets that while there are inspections for food safety, there are no inspections for fire safety, and the possibility of explosions happening due to propane leaks. Councilors are looking to implement an ordinance that will create a checklist of inspections that are needed to operate a food truck in Lima.
A semi-truck was on Interstate 75 when another passing trucker let the driver know his axle was on fire. He left the interstate and looked for a place to pull off and check his rig. The truck driver was able to pull his cab away from the trailer while a quick response from Bluffton firefighters put out the flames in the trailer loaded with pallets. The truck trailer suffered serious damage. No one is believed to have been injured.
