The Centers for Disease Control is calling on all states to encourage parents to get their kids the needed vaccines for school. The Ohio Department of Health says before the start of the last school year 86.2 % of kindergarteners had the recommended vaccines for them to start school. Which is slightly lower than the year before, and nearly 90% before the pandemic. State health experts say that parents have a lack of fear of diseases like measles, whooping cough, and polio as a threat to children's health.
COVID-19 cases are on the rise once again in Ohio, but health orders from the state seem unlikely.
The response from Ohioans have varied, but Allen County Public Health says they did see a positive impact after the lottery was announced.
Auglaize county has gone up two levels on Ohio’s advisory system in just one week. They now sit at level red with over 80 cases per capita reported. Some of the indicators for the red level include an increase in ER visits for COVID patients, a sustained increase in new cases, and the cases per capita nearly doubling. Oliver Fisher, the health commissioner in Auglaize County says jumping up two levels came as a shock.
Ohio Schools will soon be receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
Plans to bring a mobile clinic to the area were already in place, but the pandemic has increased the need for one in the area. They are hoping to distribute additional COVID-19 testing and vaccinations at the clinic. Leaders from Findlay and Hancock County have been working with local donors to eventually purchase a mobile health clinic, but now they are turning to the City of Findlay for extra funds to speed up the process.
With schools back in session, health officials are encouraging parents to get their children vaccinated.
