BATH — Bath quarterback Zach Welsch turned in a career night Friday, scoring seven total touchdowns to lead the Wildcats past Celina 49-35 in a Western Buckeye League matchup.

Welsch rushed for five touchdowns and threw for two more, including an 11-yard strike to Josiah Clark that gave Bath a 28-14 lead late in the second quarter. Celina answered before halftime when Parker Wynk connected with Carson Weitzel to make it 28-21 at the break.

The Bulldogs tied the game early in the third when Parker Bertke broke free for a touchdown run, but Bath’s offense — led by Welsch — proved too much to contain. The Wildcats’ defense tightened in the second half, with Landyn Williams coming up with a key stop to swing momentum back to Bath.

The win moves Bath to 7-1 overall, keeping them just one game behind Wapakoneta in the WBL standings. Celina falls to 3-5 with the loss.
