(WAPAKONETA, Ohio — WLIO) Two Western Buckeye League teams with a combined 28 wins squared off Friday night as Bath edged Wapakoneta 48-46.
The Redskins entered 7-3 at home this season and were looking to repeat last year’s overtime win over Bath. Instead, the Wildcats flipped the script in a game that went down to the wire.
Wapakoneta’s Caleb Adams got things started with a strong drive and finish in the first quarter. He led the Redskins with 15 points.
Bath answered on the other end with Logan Markley scoring on a clean cut to the basket. Markley matched Adams with a team-high 15 points as both teams traded baskets early.
Dagan Hawkins knocked down a three-pointer to give the Wildcats a two-point edge before Wapakoneta senior Ryan Richardson responded with a corner triple of his own. Richardson finished with 11 points.
In the second quarter, Blake Rogers powered in an and-one opportunity, trimming the deficit to one after converting at the line.
The game stayed tight throughout. In the closing moments, Daniel Cole delivered inside for Bath, helping the Wildcats secure the 48-46 victory.
With the win, Bath finishes 7-2 in the Western Buckeye League — its best league mark since 2014.
Final: Bath 48, Wapakoneta 46.
