LIMA — Columbus Grove earned a spot in the regional finals for the fourth straight year with a 28-6 win over Lima Central Catholic at Spartan Stadium. The matchup was a rematch of the teams’ October 17 meeting, which Columbus Grove won 33-25.
LCC opened the game with an eight-minute drive, reaching the 9-yard line on fourth-and-2, but a high snap led to a turnover. Columbus Grove’s Gavin Baxter recovered the loose ball and returned it 91 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bulldogs an early 7-0 lead.
Later in the first quarter, quarterback Landon Best connected with Trevon Baxter, who broke a tackle and scored to extend the lead to 14-0.
In the second quarter, LCC trailed 21-0 before quarterback Brady Parker scored on a keeper, cutting the deficit to 21-6 at halftime.
Columbus Grove added its final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a Trevon Baxter interception return, marking his third score of the night.
Lima Central Catholic finished the season 10-0 against the rest of its schedule but 0-2 against Columbus Grove.
