Countdown to Kickoff: New Bremen leans on largest senior class in Schmidt's tenure
- Updated
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — The 2025 high school football season brings renewed optimism to New Bremen, thanks in large part to a senior class that’s nearly doubled in size.
After finishing 5-6 last fall, the Cardinals return 17 seniors—up from just 10 in 2024—and hope that experience fuels a bounce-back campaign. Many of these seniors were just underclassmen when New Bremen captured the 2022 state championship in Canton. Since that title, however, the Cards have gone just 10-13.
Now, with a veteran-laden roster and a clear mission, they’re hoping to finish back where they once stood: on top of Division VII.
Quarterback Gavin Dicke returns to lead the offense, which opens the season with a pair of new opponents—Week 1 at Wayne Trace, followed by a matchup against Covington for the first time since 2012.
Head coach Chris Schmidt, entering his 11th season, has embraced the team’s “H2M” mantra—Heart, Hustle, and Muscle. It’s the largest senior class he’s had during his tenure, and expectations are rising.
