FINDLAY, Ohio — Columbus Grove got its revenge Friday night, defeating Liberty-Benton 40-20 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Bulldogs entered the matchup looking to avenge last year's 41-3 loss to the Eagles.

Neither team could find the end zone in the first quarter, but Liberty-Benton's defense made an early impact, forcing a tackle for loss to stop a Columbus Grove rushing attempt.

The Bulldogs eventually broke through when quarterback Rylan Palte rolled to his left and found Alex Meyer for a touchdown, giving Columbus Grove a 7-0 lead.

Liberty-Benton responded with a promising drive.

Quarterback Connor Barbara faked one way before throwing a screen pass to senior Asher Norman. Norman turned upfield and made several defenders miss before being brought down inside the 40-yard line.

The Eagles later faced a fourth-and-goal from the 4-yard line. Barbara rolled out and bought time, but couldn't find an open receiver before being brought down.

Columbus Grove forced the turnover on downs and maintained control from there.

The Bulldogs went on to secure the 40-20 victory and improve to 2-0, while Liberty-Benton dropped to 0-2.

Columbus Grove was a Division VII state semifinalist last season.
