Fort Loramie delivered a statement win, knocking off 15-1 Mississinawa Valley — the No. 1 team in Division VII — with a convincing 54-34 victory.
The Redskins set the tone early. Holding a four-point lead in the first quarter, sophomore Mya Grudich buried a three-pointer, helping Fort Loramie take a 15-12 advantage after one.
Later in the half, Izzy Meyer found Liza Poeppelman on the wing, and the sophomore responded by knocking down the shot to extend the lead. Poeppelman wasn’t done. Moments later, she connected again from the opposite side, giving Fort Loramie a seven-point cushion.
Poeppelman scored seven points in the first half as the Redskins went into the break leading 30-20.
Fort Loramie continued to ride the hot hand in the second half. Poeppelman found herself open in the paint and converted an easy basket as part of a team-high 18-point performance. The sophomore was named the game MVP.
The win snapped Mississinawa Valley’s 15-game winning streak, as Fort Loramie pulled away for a 54-34 victory.
