OTTOVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) — Kalida stayed within striking distance of the Putnam County League lead with a 60-44 road win over Ottoville, keeping pressure on league frontrunner Miller City.
The Wildcats, who entered the night one game back in the PCL standings, began to separate themselves in the second quarter. Parker Vorst went to work in the midrange, pivoting and rising for a jumper that helped Kalida build a double-digit advantage.
Ottoville looked for answers on the offensive end as Grady Leach knocked down a bucket to trim the deficit.
Later in the quarter, the Big Green found success on ball movement. Ashton Miller worked his way around the defense before kicking it out to Evan Altenburger in the corner, where the junior connected from deep. Altenburger finished with 11 points.
Kalida answered quickly. Cody Recker jumped a pass in the backcourt and went coast-to-coast for the layup, swinging momentum back to the visitors.
Recker wasn’t finished. After giving the ball up, the junior got it right back and buried a three-pointer from downtown, part of his 10-point night.
Owen Grime led all scorers with 26 points as Kalida maintained control down the stretch.
With the 60-44 victory, Kalida earned back-to-back wins for the first time this season, improving its position in the PCL title race.
