MILLER CITY, Ohio (WLIO) — Liberty-Benton came up short against Genoa Area, falling 52-48 in the Division Four district final.
The Eagles, 19-5 entering the game, faced off against 18-6 Genoa Area. Liberty-Benton stayed close throughout, with Claire McDaniel finding Emelia Kin under the basket for a team-high 17 points.
Late in the third quarter, Megan Gerken kept Genoa Area within striking distance with a drive to the hoop, and a corner three in the fourth gave the winners a narrow lead. Toledo commit Corra DeHart scored 14 points for Liberty-Benton, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Genoa Area’s late rally.
The loss ends Liberty-Benton’s season and Genoa Area advances as district champions.
