LIMA, OH — The rubber match between the Lima Locos and Flag City Sluggers delivered plenty of drama Sunday afternoon at Simmons Field.
After both teams split the first two games, Flag City jumped out early in the series finale. In the first inning, Trey Gardner singled to left to drive in two more runs as the Sluggers took a commanding 4–0 lead.
Starting pitcher Braxton Betancourt kept the Locos quiet early, tallying five strikeouts through the first few innings.
But in the third, Lima got on the board. A grounder by Payton Ebbing slipped under the shortstop's glove, allowing Brecken Menuet to score and cut into the lead.
In the fourth, David Falloon grounded one back to the mound to bring in Charlie Vercruysse, trimming the deficit to 4–2.
From there, the Locos chipped away and eventually tied the game before the ninth inning brought the defining moment.
With the winning run on third, Payton Ebbing lifted a deep fly ball to the outfield—a walk-off sacrifice fly to seal the come-from-behind win for Lima.
Final score: Locos 5, Sluggers 4.
