MARIA STEIN, Ohio (WLIO) — Coldwater and Marion Local squared off for the second time in two weeks, with the Cavaliers looking to avenge a 50-40 loss to the Flyers.
Coldwater came out strong and held a 17-10 lead early in the third quarter, but Marion Local quickly shifted the momentum.
Clare Bruns forced a turnover and turned it into an uncontested layup to spark the rally. Later in the quarter, Kate Ashman knocked down a corner three as the Flyers went on a 12-0 run to take a 22-17 lead.
The Cavaliers refused to go away. In the fourth quarter, Ava Smith set her feet and buried a three-pointer to pull Coldwater within two. Moments later, Brylee Knapke converted a hoop and the harm to keep the Cavs within striking distance.
But Marion Local had an answer each time. Faith Ronnebaum worked around her defender for a key bucket to help the Flyers maintain control down the stretch.
Marion Local secured the 38-25 victory and will move on to face St. Henry next Wednesday at Wapakoneta.
