Marion Local survives Allen East comeback, advances to district semifinals

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Another MAC versus Northwest Conference showdown took place Saturday at the University of Northwestern Ohio as Marion Local Flyers battled Allen East Mustangs in tournament action.
Marion Local wasted no time getting the offense going in the top of the first inning. Isaac Moeller blooped a base hit into center field, allowing Ben Meier to race home with a headfirst slide as the Flyers jumped out to a 6-0 lead.
Later in the inning, Trey Brookhart added another RBI with a single through the infield that scored Andrew Schmackers. Marion Local erupted for eight runs in the opening frame to take an 8-0 advantage.
But Allen East responded in the bottom of the second inning. Trailing 8-2, Jackson Thompson launched a two-run home run to dead center field to cut the deficit in half.
The Mustangs kept the rally going later in the inning when Hayden Carter dropped a base hit just inside the first-base line, bringing home two more runs. Allen East scored seven runs in the inning and took a 9-8 lead.
Marion Local answered late and regained control behind key pitching from Luke Everman, who recorded two strikeouts.
Marion Local Flyers held on for a 12-11 victory over Allen East Mustangs and advances to the district semifinal against Columbus Grove Bulldogs at Upper Scioto Valley. First pitch is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27 at 2 p.m.
