MARIA STEIN (WLIO) — Marion Local handed Parkway its first loss of the season, pulling off a four-set upset over the state’s No. 2-ranked team in Division VI.
The Flyers rallied in the opening set after trailing 13-10, with Baylie Evers delivering a block to narrow the gap. Parkway responded with Brittyn Bruns powering down a kill to extend the Panthers’ lead, and later Cami Langenkamp tied the set at 25 with a point at the net.
But Marion Local closed strong, as Kate Ashman sealed the first set with a kill to give the Flyers a 27-25 win.
Marion Local rode that momentum the rest of the night, taking three of four sets to secure the upset over the previously unbeaten Panthers.
