WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — Described as the face of Wapakoneta's athletic programs, Redskin senior Caleb Moyer doesn't shy away from a challenge.

He's an All-WBL standout on the grid-iron and the basketball court.

And the Bowling Green State University football commit shines in the classroom as well with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

"Well, I think from an athletic standpoint, just his competitiveness, you know, he's been extremely competitive ever since he's walked in our program and was a starter from day one at quarterback for us. So, you know, obviously a kid that's competed at a high level for four years and made a lot of starts for us," said Wapakoneta football head coach Travis Moyer.

A three-time All-Ohio selection in football and an All-WBL honoree in basketball, Wapakoneta senior Caleb Moyer continues to set a higher standard every time he steps onto the field — or the court.

"I just feel like they can help me in a lot of ways and obviously I've grown up playing that and it's been a lot of fun so just doing those sports and being able to compete with my friends has always been really fun," said Caleb Moyer.

For the past four seasons, Caleb hasn't just taken the field — he shared it with his dad, a special experience both of them say they'll never forget.

"Just from a father's standpoint, just to be able to spend the time with him and to watch him each and every day out at practice, I had no better seat in the house than to be able to watch him each and every day, and I'm extremely grateful for that," said Coach Moyer.

"It's been really special. Obviously, having him a part of my life and being able to be my coach has been really special, and just having him by my side through everything has been really important and very valuable to me," said Caleb Moyer.

And Caleb is not done yet. The Redskin senior will take his talents to Bowling Green State University to continue his football career with the Falcons.

"Just the culture, obviously, that's the biggest thing when you're committing to a place is obviously you want to go there and know that it's a special place and they're building the right things there, and I just feel like they're doing that. So I can expect a guy who's going to give great energy and leadership to the team and hopefully help them get some more wins," said Caleb Moyer.

And outside the field of play, Caleb's hard work continues in the classroom. The senior has a perfect 4.0 GPA.

"Caleb the student is on the same level as Caleb the athlete. He works just as hard, he cares about his grades, he participates in class. You can't ask for much more. If things need to get done, he's going to get it done," said Wapakoneta science teacher Adam Friemering.

But for all the awards and accolades, Caleb says what matters most isn't the records or numbers on the scoreboard — it's the example he's leaving behind.

"What I've done on the field is pretty cool, but I feel like the most important thing is just being a good person. Obviously just trying to create a legacy for like younger classes and everything and show that I did some good things here," said Caleb Moyer.

Congratulations to Caleb Moyer— our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week of the Week.>
